BLOOMFIELD - Edward Burchette, 78, of Fairfield died April 1, 1989, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.
He was born Nov. 26, 1910, in Bloomfield to Harry and Irene McGriff Burchett. He lived in Bloomfield for many years, where he was involved in numerous civic activities. He served as president of Bloomfield school board, Davis County Hospital Board, Citizens Mutual Telephone Co. and the Bloomfield Area Chamber of Commerce. During World War II he established the manufacturing company Knockonwood Industries to provide employment for families of service men. The firm made weather houses and a line of baby furniture and novelty items from his designs. He served as chairman of the board of Valley Bank in Des Moines. He married Josephine Steckel in December 1935. She died in 1951. He married Lucille Morrison in 1954.
He is survived by his son, Peter of Boulder City, Nev.; a daughter, Nan Cameron of Fairfield; five grandchildren; and four great-granddaughters.
The body has been cremated. A private family service will be held later in Bloomfield.
Memorials have been established to Bloomfield Community Development Fund in care of Nancy Logan at the Davis County Savings Bank in Bloomfield or the Des Moines Art Center.
