Lenora G. Peacock, daughter of John W. and Martha Anna Van Hyning Hughes, was born February 18, 1901 in Scotland County, Missouri and died the morning of Sunday, June 18, 1989 at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center, Keosauqua, at the age of 88.
As a child she moved with her parents to Mt. Sterling, and grew up in rural Van Buren County. She had been a cook at Van Buren County Home, a bookkeeper at Harbison Produce Co. in Keosauqua, and owned and operated apartment houses in Keosauqua.
She was a member of Keosauqua United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and Lynds Chapter, Order of Eastern Star.
She married Ross Moore March 5, 1930 in Fairfield. They farmed near Stockport. He died in 1945. She married William C. Peacock July 29, 1950. Mr. Peacock died in 1977, after which she moved to Country Lane Apartments and later to the Good Samaritan Center.
Surviving are a sister, Louise Wolf, Ft. Madison, two brothers, Reginald Hughes, Las Gatos, California and Rex Hughes, Custer, South Dakota, a stepson, Neil Peacock, Greenfield, two stepdaughters, Lenore Creath, Cantril and Kathleen Starnes, Lawndale, California, 17 grandchildren, 23 step great grandchildren, five step great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Six brothers, Russell, Roy, Rupert, Roscoe, Raymond and Robert Hughes and three sisters, Lela Holmes, Lola Austin, and Lula Beggs preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 21, 1989 at 11 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, wit Rev. Chrisa Ferguson officiating. Interment was in Miller Chapel Cemetery northeast of Keosauqua. Memorials were established for Keosauqua United Methodist Church and Van Buren Good Samaritan Center.
