CHARLES BACON DIES AT INDIANA HOME

Relatives and friends in this community have word of the death of Charles A. (Allen) Bacon who passed away at his home in South Bend, Indiana June 2, 1937. He was aged 60 years at the time of his death and for twenty years had been an engineer for the Oliver Chilleri Plow Works. Mr. Bacon had been in ill health for 5 or 6 years and the direct cause of his death was pneumonia.

Mr. Bacon was born in Cromwell, Iowa, July 9, 1876 and his wife will be remembered as Ethel Gillet, a niece of John Giullet of Corning. After graduating from Knox College at Galesburg, Illinois, Mr. Bacon was Canadian advertising manager for the International Harvester Company. He later became connected with the Oliver Plow Works where he wrote the Oliver Plow book which has been used throughout the world as a text and which has been translated into several languages. He often gave lectures at leading agricultural colleges and was widely known as an authority on agricultural subjects.

Mr. Bacon was married in 1907 in Chicago to Ethel Gillet, who survives with one son, Charles Edgar Bacon of Elkhart, Indiana. He also leaves a sister, Miss Georgiana Bacon of Creston and two brothers, Ira F. Bacon of Del Norte, Colorado and Ralph W. Bacon of Mt. Ayr, Iowa..
