Amelia Elizabeth Fery Bacon was born at Churchville, Warren County, Ia., August 12, 1877 and departed this life on Thursday afternoon, March 4, 1909. She came to Cromwell in 1893 with her father, Joseph Fery and her four sisters; her mother having previously passed on. Deceased made her home with Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Grant for several years and at their home in Creston, was married to William Harvey Bacon, oldest son of C. H. [Charles Harvey] and M. E. [Mary Eliza Harrington] Bacon, January 11, 1900, and lived in the vicinity of Cromwell on the Bacon farm until the reaper death claimed her for his own.

Two children were born to them, Georgia Myrtle, aged 7 years, and Clayton Lovieur, aged 5 years.

The deceased had suffered untold agony for a few weeks and after careful consideration she was taken to Creston Saturday, February 27th and on Sunday morning a serious operation was performed which proved to be fatal for in four days after, she entered into rest. Thus our dear one snatched from us.

She was a member of the Cromwell Congregational Church and lived a good life. She was a great home body and was very happy with her children, who will miss her very much. She leaves a loving husband, two beautiful children, an aged father, four sisters: Mrs. Lon Grassman of Eugene, Oregon; Mrs. Richardson, of Des Moines; Mrs. Ed McCafferty of Cromwell; and Miss Della Fery of Cromwell; besides many relatives and friends to mourn her loss.

The funeral services were held in the Congregational Church on Sunday afternoon March 7th, conducted by Rev. James Kirkwood. The singing was rendered by a quartet composed of Misses Frances and Evelyn Harrison, with Miss Edith Hitchcock, organist. Rev. Mr. Kirkwood took for his text "For the living know that they shall die." First clause of Eccl 9:5.

The deceased was a member of the Cromwell Rebekah Lodge and was noble grand at the time of her death, so a good many of the Creston Lodge came in a body and marched to "to the hall" to and also to the cemetery, where Cromwell Lodge had charge of the services. The casket was covered with beautiful floral offereings.

Those who attended the funeral from abroad were Joseph Fery, father of the deceased, Mountain Grove, Mo.; Mrs. Richardson, a sister of the deceased from Des Moines; Allen Bacon a brother of Mr. Bacon from Chicago, Ill.; C. Bacon, a cousin of Mr. Bacon from Peoria, Ill.; besides a large number of friends from Creston, Prescott, and some from Kent.

The bereaved ones have the sympathy of the community as was shown by the attendance at the funeral, the church being filled to full capacity.
