Harvey Bacon, of Creston, whom we mentioned in last week's paper as being taken ill at the home of his sister, Mrs. A. L. Smock Saturday, passed away Wednesday evening, November 22, 1916, at 7:30 o'clock at the Cottage hospital in Creston, where he underwent an operation Tuesday. He had ulcers of the bowels and suffered a great deal. There was but very little hope for him at any time.

The deceased is the oldest son of Mrs. M. E. Bacon [Charles Henry and Mary Eliza Bacon] of Creston, and he and his two children, Georgia aged 14 and Clayton aged 12 , have made their home with his mother since is wife passed away seven years ago. The deceased was born on a farm four miles northwest of Cromwell, in Adams county, July 26, 1874, where he grew to manhood. He was married to Emma Fery and lived on the home farm util his wife passed away. He leaves besides his two children and his mother; three brothers and two sisters, Allen Bacon of South Bend, Ind., Mrs. Fannie Smock, of Cromwell, Iowa; Ira of Center, Colorado; Miss Georgiana of Creston and Ralph of Cromwell, Iowa. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon, at 1:30 at the home of his mother, Mrs. Bacon in Creston, the services being conducted by Rev. Mr. Bayne, pastor of the Congregational church at that place. Interment was made in the Maple Hill cemetery in Cromwell beside his wife. the deceased was a member of the Masonic and Odd Fellows lodges and beautiful flowers were given by those orders, as they were from a host of friends.

The relatives from abroad who attended the funeral were his brother, Allen Bacon, and his wife and son Charles, from South Bend, Ind., and Wm. Harrington, from Illinois, an uncle. The pallbearers were his two brothers, Allen and Ralph Bacon, his brother in law A. L. Smock and M. Randolph of Cromwell; L. O. Corey, of Creston, and an uncle from Illinois. the relatives have the sympathy of many friends.
