GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
[THIS INCLUDED A PICTURE OF THE COUPLE.]

Mr. & Mrs. G. W. Cunningham, celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary, on last Wednesday, December 25, at their home in the south part of the city [Afton]. Owing to the feeble condition of Mr. Cunningham it was decided to spend the day quietly, with a noon dinner for the children and a few others close relatives, but because of illness and the heavy storms of last week the children who live at at distance were were unable to reach home and the plesure of the occasion was greatly marred by the fact that of the four children but one, Will Cunningham, of this city could be with them on that date. They were the the recipients of a number of beautiful and useful gifts, conspicious among them being a gold headed cane for Mr. Cunningham and a handsome Bible for his wife.

George W. Cunningham and Mahettia Justice were united in marriage at Salem, Marion County, Illinois, on December 25th, 1868, at the Methodist Episcopal parsonage in that city. They established their home on a farm for a number of years coming to Afton late in October, 1888, and have since made this their home.

Mr. Cunningham conducted a dairy for a number of years, until owing to the infirmities of age he was forced to retire from active life. They were the parents of five children, three sons, Sam C. of Galesburg, Ill.; Will of this city, and Ernest who is in the aviation section, stationed at Fort Wayne, Michigan; two daughters, Maude, wife of J. A Danton, of Detroit, Michigan, and Sallie, who passed away at the age of fiftenn years, shortly after the removal of the family to this city.

Mr. Cunningham is a veteran of the Civil War, havig enlisted in Co. G, 22 Illinois volunteers, at Bird's Point, MO., on December 1, 1861, and was a recruit under First Lieutenant John R. Smith for three years He was wounded in battle at Stone River Murphysboro, Tenn., December 31st,1862. [Long history of his military life.]

Both are long time members of the First M. E. church of this city, and are quite active in church work. Their many friens in the coutny extend congratulations on this unusual event and join in wishing them any more years of wedded happiness and prosperity.
