OBITUARY: CRESTON NEWS ADVERTISER: Martha C. Shaffer, 82, of Lenox, Iowa, died Thursday morning, December 18, 1986 at the Des Moines General Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa after a long illness. Services will be 2:30 PM Sunday, December 21, at the Creston First Baptist Church. The Revs. Ronald Shrock and Wilson Grismore will officiate with burial in the East Fairview Cemetery, Lenox, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church, Creston, Iowa.
Shaffer was born May 28, 1904 in Sharpsburg to Edmund and Lydia (nee Strong) Filbert. She married Earl Shaffer, September 21, 1924, at Bedford, Iowa. She was a housewife and lived most of her life around the Lenox area. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband Earl of Lenox; a son Loran Shaffer of Macksburg, Iowa; three daughters Arlene (Mrs. Donald) Showers of Aurora, Missouri; Thelma (Mrs. Guy) Sleep of Anamosa, Iowa; and Mary Lou (Mrs. Robert) O'Banion of Lewisville, Texas; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Cora Boyer of Silver City, Iowa.
