OBITUARY: Services for Earl Shaffer, 91, of Mount Ayr, formerly of Creston, Lenox and Bedford were at 2:30 PM January 28 at the First Baptist Church, Creston, Iowa. He died January 27, 1995 at the Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr. The Rev. Richard W. Houg officiated the service. Music was by Lawrence Wires, organist and Jon & Cheryl Forrest (grandchildren), vocalists. Burial was in the East Fairview Cemetery at Lenox, Iowa. The Wilson-Watson Funeral Home had charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Allan Showers, David Showers, Robert Sleep, Randall Sleep, Ronald Sleep and Jerry Sleep, James and Dennis O'Banion, and Daniel Shaffer & Steven Shaffer, his grandsons.
Mr. Shaffer was born June 6, 1903, in Taylor County, Iowa to Samuel and Mary Ann (Smith) Shaffer. He spent most of his life in Taylor and Adams Counties, Iowa. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Creston. Survivors include son, Loran (wife Eleanor) of Macksburg, Iowa; Arlene (husband Donald) Showers, Aurora, Missouri; Thelma (husband Guy) Sleep of Anamosa, Iowa; and Mary (husband Robert) O'Banion of Lewisville, Texas; 16 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild.
