Area Farmers Receive Century Award

Three area farms were among those honored as century farms at special ceremonies at the Iowa State Fair Aug. 13. Awards were presented to 231 Iowa farm families.

Sioux County farmers honored were Marc Chapman, Sr., Maurice, Earl De Jong, Hospers, and James Jansen, Alton. The program honors farms of at least 40 acres held by the same family for over 100 years. In the past seven years over 7,000 farm families have been awarded certificates and farm markers. All three local families have held their farms since 1881.
