Services for Earl Edwin Gaule were held Sunday, March 23, 2003 at the Christian Church in Clearfield with Rev. Eydie Stephens,officiating. The musicians were Jean Huffman and Andrew Davis. Casket Bearers were Gary L. Gaule, Jr., Stefanie J. Beeman. Teresa A. Welch, Stoney E. Gaule, Craig A. Davenport and Travis L. Gaule.
Internment was at the Clearfield Cemetery, Clearfield, Iowa with Military Graveside Rites by: Woodside Post # 97, American Legion.
Earl Edwin Gaule, age 82, passed away March 21, 2003 at the Clearview Nursing Home where he had been a resident since June of 1998. Earl was born in rural Blockton, Iowa to James Henry
and Mary Elizabeth (Perkins) Gaule on November 3, 1920. He was the fifth of seven children and grew to adulthood on the family farm Southeast of Clearfield. He graduated from Benton High
School with the class of 1938.
After graduation from high school, Earl farmed with his dad until he left in September, 1942 to serve with the Army's 7th Infantry Division. Many were getting married before leaving to
serve, but Earl told his sweetheart that he had a war to fight before he could get married. After 38 months, Earl returned from service
in the Asiatic Pacific Theater where he earned the Purple Heart and was initiated for crossing the equator.
On August 14, 1946 Earl married his sweetheart, Nioma Lane, at Troy, KS. To this union 3 children were born; Gary Lynn, Deanna Kay and Alvin Eugene. Earl was an involved, loving
husband and father who also found time for his civic duties. He was a key participant in the construction of the Clearfield Christian Church where he was a long time member. Earl served
as Scoutmaster, Midget League coach, Lions Club member, volunteer fireman and School Board member and President Patriotism for his country led him to be a lifetime active member of the American Legion and VFW. He worked at Bailey
Oil Co., Stevenson's Garage and Dannon Elevator; before being appointed Postmaster of the Clearfield Post Office on December 21,1950 by President Harry Truman. He retired from the Post
Office at age 55 due to disability from Parkinson's Disease. Earl had a good sense of humor and enjoyed a good laugh. He doted over his grandchildren and loved visiting them or having them spend time with Nioma and him in Clearfield.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents Jim and Mary, son Gary, sisters Marie (in childhood) and Bertha, brothers Clifford and Lloyd.
Those left to cherish Earl's memory are: his wife Nioma,daughter-in-law Mary, daughter and son-in-law Deanna and Marian Davenport, son Alvin, grandchildren Gary, Jr., Teresa (Mrs. Andrew) Welch, Craig (wife Rachel) Davenport, Stefanie (Mrs. Robert) Beeman, Stoney (wife Heather), Travis; great grandchildren Catherine Davenport, Taylor, Merik, and Aidea Sisters Mabel Wood and Darlene Mobley, and many nieces,
nephews, cousins and friends.
