Robert E. Smith, 68, of the 7500 block of Southwest 14th Street died of cancer Friday (5/19/2000)at Hospice Kavanagh House. Services will be at 11:00 AM Monday at Fort Des Moines United Methodist Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born in Kellerton and lived in Des Moines since 1954. He had worked for Ruan Transportation and was a self-employed real estate broker and property manager. He was a past high priest at Ascalon Masonic Lodge and chairman of the board at his church. He loved being a Shrine clown and entertaining children.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl (Baker); a son Douglas of Des Moines; two daughters, Karmen Lawrence of Des Moines and Lori Smith of Coralville; two sisters, Willette Curl of Centerville and Audra Baskins of St Joseph, Mo.;' three grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Friends may call from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday May 22, 2000 at Southtown Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to his church.
