OBITUARY - CARL V. BALL

Carl Virgil BALL, son of Burl and Clara BALL, was born June 10, 1893, at Barlow, Ohio, and passed away in Des Moines on November 19, 1952, at the age of 59 years, five months and nine days.

His boyhood was spent in Ohio, and he came to Iowa with his parents in 1913.

He served in the U.S. Army in World War I and spent several months in France with the 88th Division.

On September 7, 1917, he was united in marriage with Miss Laura SPEELMAN. Not having children of their own, two boys were taken into the home, where they were reared to manhood.

In 1943, Mr. and Mrs. BALL went to Marshalltown, where they have since been employed in the Iowa Soldiers' Home hospital.

Carl had been in poor health for a long time, but despite the advice of doctor and nurse, ept onwith his work until two weeks ago, when he entered the Veterans' Hospital in Des Moines for examination and treatment, but death came suddenly due to a heart attack.

He united with the Methodist church of Barlow, Ohio, at the age of eight years, and later transferred his membership to the United Presbyterian church of Tingley. he ws also a charter member of Dewey Post No. 516, American Legion, of Tingley.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter.

Left to mourn his loss are the devoted wife; the two sons, Harold, who is a patient in the Veterans' Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn., and Raymond, who is stationed at the San Marcos Air Force Base in Texas; five grandchildren; one brother, H. D. BALL, of Tingley; one sister, Mrs. Robert O'GRADY of Ellston, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the Methodist church in Tingley, conducted by a former pastor, the Rev. C. G. McKNIGHT, of Goldfield, assisted by the Rev. Chas. WILSON, of Tingley. Joan HANNAH and Bob LUPHER furnished the music, with Mrs. Harold LORIMOR at the piano.

Pallbearers were W. S. BRECKENRIDGE, John BOYD, Allan AIKEN, Leon LUPHER, Earl TROXELL and R. G. HOGUE. The American Legion conducted military services at the Tingley Cemetery, where burial was made.
