OBITUARY - ROBERT MAGGARD

Robert Leon MAGGARD was born February 20, 1902, at Kellerton, Iowa, to James and Eva STAATS MAGGARD. He departed this life October 3, 1991, at the Lamoni Manor, Lamoni, Iowa.

On December 14, 1920, he was united in marriage to Kathryn May BROOKS at Mount Ayr, Iowa. She preceded him in death on February 20, 1979. To this union four children were born: Perry, Larry, Alberta, and Darlene.

Robert received his Lord in 1927 and was baptized into the Grant City Christian Church, later transferring his membership to the Mount Ayr First Christian Church.

Robert answered to Bob, R. L. and Dad with a big smile. He was proud to be a Mason and worked in any way he could to help out in the Masonic Order.

He was a railroad foreman for the Burlington Railroad for 48 years. He retired at age 65 to care for his ailing wife, to whom he was very devoted. After her death he was so lonelyhe decided to leave his home in Mount Ayr and finish out his life close to his boys in Des Moines where he became a companion to them and they to him.

It was to his delight one great-grandchild was born close to Dad. His name was Andy and when you talked about Andy, Dad's eyes would light up with all the love a little boy would ever want.

Dad, Heaven's gates are open now and we are ready for you to be with Mom and find rest in the hand of our Lord. We will always love you, Dad.

Those left to cherish his memory are Perry and his wife, Faye, and Larry of Des Moines; Alberta and husband, Paul EVANS, and Darlene and husband Hale MILLER, of St. Joeph, MO; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Bertha HIGHTSHOE of Mount Ayr, and a brother, Acel MAGGARD of Des Moines; also many other relatives who will miss him but always have fond memories.

Funeral services were held October 6, 1991, from the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, conducted by Rev. Victor BOLLINGER. Music was provided by Mike GREENE, Mrs. Jim JONES and Mrs. Robert FISHER.

Casketbearers were Robert J. MAGGARD, Dwight MONDAY, Dennis BROOKS, Art JACKSON, Gary DeBOARD and Wayne HECTOR.

Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr, Iowa.
