OBITUARY - ACEL MAGGARD

Acel MAGGARD, son of James I. and Eva Ann STAATS MAGGARD, was born on September 16, 1899 at Ellston, Iowa, and died on November 19, 1993 at Westside Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

Acel was united in marriage with Lola GILBERT on August 3, 1927. To this union five children were born: son, James, and daughters, Julia, Louise, Ann and Sue.

He farmed in Ringgold and Union Counties until 1954 when he moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where he worked in construction until his retirement in 1965.

He was a member ofLaborer's International Union of North America, Local Union #177.

He always enjoyed being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fishing ws a favorite pastime of his.

Acel is survived by his wife, Lola; son James and wife Jeanne of Lakewood, Colorado; daughters, Julia LANE of Jamesport, Missouri, Ann MAGGARD of Des Moines, Iowa, Louise and husband Chuck BARNARD of Littleton, Colorado and Sue and husband Hansie SEEMAN of Panora, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, two sisters and one great-grandchild.

Graveside services were held in Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr, Iowa, on November 23, 1993. His grandsons served as casketberares and granddaughters as honorary pallbearers.
