OBITUARY - THEODORE "TED" HIGHTSHOE

Theodore "Ted" HIGHTSHOE was born June 14, 1901 to Isaac Chris and Josephine SPARKS HIGHTSHOE at Oxford, Missouri.

He departed this life at the Lamoni Manor May 16, 1990.

He grew to manhood in Ringgold County, attending country schoolnear his rural home; riding a pony back and forth.

On September 3, 1924 he married Bertha Mae MAGGARD at the Methodist parsonage by T. S. RHOADES of Mount Ayr, Iowa. THey established their home on a farm near Kellerton, Iowa. He farmed in Ringgold and Decatur Counties for over 60 years. He was a dairy farmer and raised American Saddle Horses and trained them for other people.

Ted and Bertha were privileged to have celebrated 65 years of married life. He loved to have his family with him every weekend.

He sold his farm in 1979 and retired to Mount Ayr where his health failed him from then on.

He leaves his wife, Bertha; two daughters, Theola WEEDA and husband Lloyd and Donna EASON and husband Clair (Skip) EASON; four sons, Chirs and wife Myrtle of Shirley, Arkansas, Ted HIGHTSHOE, Jr. and wife Twila of Creston, Iowa, David and wife Shirley of Mount Ayr, Iowa and Ed and wife Gay of Creston; grandchildren, Larry and Mary Lee FOLTZ, Cathy, Joyce, Danny and Kristy HIGHTSHOE, Teddy Paul, Terry, Debra and JoAnn EASON, Kim, Jon, Julie and Jodie HIGHTSHOE, Billy HIGHTSHOE and Chad, Cory and Stacy HIGHTSHOE; two step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Elmer (Bud) HIGHTSHOE of Kellerton, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chris and Josephine HIGHTSHOE; five sisters, Iva SMITH, Grace BOWEN, Hazel SNELL, and two in infancy; two brothers, Russell HIGHTSHOE and Merle (Babe) HIGHTSHOE, and one great-grandson, Lucas EASON.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 19, 1990, from the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, conducted by Rev. Jack KENDALL of Tingley. Music was provided by Jane THOMAS and Arlen HUGHES of Mount Ayr.

Casketbearers were grandsons: Larry FOLTZ, Dan HIGHTSHOE, Terry EASON, Jon HIGHTSHOE, Billy HIGHTSHOE and Chad HIGHTSHOE.

Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr.
