OBITUARY - BERTHA HIGHTSHOE

Bertha Mae (MAGGARD) HIGHTSHOE was born January 13, 1904 to James Isaac MAGGARD and Eva Ann (STAATS) MAGGARD at Kellerton, Iowa. She departed this life at the Clearview Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa on July 4, 1993.

She grew to womanhood in Ringgold County and attended rural schools and Kellerton High School.

On September 3, 1924 she married Ted HIGHTSHOE at the Methodist Parsonage by T. S. RHOADES of Mount Ayr. They established their home on a farm near Kellerton, Iowa. She lived on farms in Decatur and Ringgold counties until she and Ted moved to Mount Ayr. Later she moved to Creston, Iowa, coming back to Mount Ayr in September, 1989 to reside in Clearview Home.

Ted and Bertha were privilged to have celebrated 65 years of married life.

She loved to have her family with her every weekend and any other time they could be there.

She leaves her six children - Theola WEEDA of Mount Ayr, Chris HIGHTSHOE and wife Myrtle of Shirley, Arkansas, Donna EASON and husband Clair (Skip) of Waukee, Iowa, Teddy HIGHTSHOE and wife Twila of Creston, Iowa, David HIGHTSHOE and wife Shirley of Mount Ayr and Ed HIGHTSHOE and wife Gay of Creston, Iowa; 18 grandchildren, Larry and Mary Lee FOLTZ; Cathy BASCHKE, Joyce BERRY, Danny HIGHTSHOE and Kritsy PRUITT; Teddy Paul, Terry, Debra (SMITH)and JoAnn EASON; Kim (HOEPKER), Jon, Julie (HAMMERS) and Jodie HIGHTSHOE; Billy HIGHTSHOE and Chad, Cory and Stacy HIGHTSHOE; two step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Acel MAGGARD and wife Lola of Des Moines; one brother-in-law, Elmer (Bud) HIGHTSHOE and wife Wilma of Kellerton, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted HIGHTSHOE; parents, James and Eva Ann MAGGARD; one sister, Hazel FUGATE, and one brother, Robert L. MAGGARD.

Funeral services were held July6, 1993, from the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, conducted by Rev. Peter BRANTNER. Music was provided by Ginny EIGHMY and Karen PETTINGER.

Casketbearers were Larry FOLTZ, Terry EASON, Jon HIGHTSHOE, Chad HIGHTSHOE, Cory HIGHTSHOE, Billy HIGHTSHOE and Danny HIGHTSHOE.

Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr, Iowa.
