OBITUARY - JAMES I. MAGGARD

James I[saac]. MAGGARD, son of John E. and Sarah MAGGARD, was born October 26, 1871, in Cass county, Iowa, and departed this life January 3rd, 1955, at the age of 83 years, two months and seven days.

On December 26, 1893, he was united in marriage to Eva A. STAATS, and this union was blessed with four children - two sons and two daughters.

Most of his active life was spent in farming. In 1905 the family removed to a farm in Ringgold county where they continued to reside until 1942 when Mr. MAGGARD retired from the farm and moved his family to Mount Ayr.

At the age of35 years, Mr. MAGGARD united with the United Brethren church in Liberty township. He took an active aprt in furnishing material for and assisting with the construction of the new church, which has since been removed. After moving to Mount Ayr heattended church in this city.

For the past two years he has been confined to his bed, during which time he has been tenderly cared for by his devoted wife.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Eva; two daughters, Mrs. Hazel FUGATE, of Diagonal, and Mrs. Bertha HIGHTSHOE, of Mount Ayr; two sons, Acel, of Des Moines, and Robert, of Mount Ayr; 20 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, January 6, at 1:30 o'clock, from the Rhoades Funeral Home, conducted by Harold A. REEL, pastor of the First Christian church. Music was provided by Mrs. Harold REEL, Mrs. W. B. CUNNING and Margaret PENCE, organist. Casketbearers werre grandsons of the deceased. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
