OBITUARY - MRS. L. C. LAY

Sarah Jane IRVING was born in Columbus, Ohio, March22nd, 1851, and died at her home in Ringgold county, Iowa, August 11, 1911, aged sixty years, four months and twenty days. She was the daughter of Charles and Jane IRVING, and the first of eight children thjey reared to pass away. From Guerensey county, Ohio, she removed with the family to southern Illinois in 1861 and from there to Ringgold county, Iowa, in 1865. She made her home continuously from that time till her death in Ringgold county with the exception of a short time in Missouri.

She was one of the charter members of the Presbyterian church in Mount Ayr. She took her letter from that church signed by her father as elder, and united with her husband, with the Methodist church in 1876. She continued a faithfulmember of the same toher death.

She was happily married to Mr. L. C. [Luther Caleb] LAY at her home in this county September 1, 1875. There are eight living children, Mary PARKER, of Buda, Ill., and Oveda, Homer, Lee, Corwin, Joseph, Louella and John.

For the last five years Sister LAY has not had the best of health, but has been up and around and able to do the work even up to the morning of the day she died.

She leaves a devoted husband, her affectionate children, her brothers and sisters and a large circle of friends to mourn her sudden death. They have the fresh memory of her kind ministries in her family and in the social circle in which she moved and to whom she gave all of her heart's love and her hands service. One can scarcely realize that she has gone. It would seem she must return from some other room, or from the garden to be again the center of the happy circle. It will be long before those devoted hearts become adjusted to her departure.
