OBITUARY

James Mitchell WOOD, son of John M. and Laura
J[ane (WHITE)] WOOD was born on February 8, 1898 in Mount Ayr, Iowa and departed this life as we know it on August 28, 1998 at his home in Mount Ayr. He was a life-long resident of Mount Ayr reaching the age of 100 years, six months and 20 days.

James married Eva Violet SEVIERS on August 26,1918 in Mount Ayr. She passed away September 6, 1984. There were four children born to this union: Frances, Pauline, Robert, and Earl.

James served twice as mayor of Mount Ayr. He supported his family by farming, barbering, police work and as a painter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Eva, a daughter Pauline NEWMAN, and a son Frances WOOD.

Left to survive his memory are sons Robert and wife Neva WOOD of Seattle, Washington, and Earl WOOD of Mount Ayr; a sister Georgia DANIELS of Kingman, Arizona; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held on August 31, 1998 at the Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr with Rev. Stephen GREEN officiating. Musical selections were "Amazing Grace" and "Just a Closer Walk With Thee."

Casketbearers were Steve WOOD, Garry WOOD, Don ZOLLMAN, Rodney ZOLLMAN, David ZOLLMAN, Gary MYERS and Jack GERLACH. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr.
