OBITUARY - WILLIS SISSEL.
Willis SISSEL, oldest son of James and Elizabeth SISSEL, was born in Muscatine County, Iowa, on April 6, 1850, and departed this life April 13, 1931, at the age of 81 years and seven days. He was united in marriage to Emma THOMPSON on October 13, 1878. To this union ten children were born, seven boys and three girls, three who departed this life in infancy and one son Chris at the age of of 46, of Galesburg, Ill. Those who survive him are Iva and Edgar at home, Osmer of Lamoni, Mrs. Della PARMER and Gail of Van Wert, and Mrs. Clarence NEWTON of Grand River; twenty-three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He moved to Decatur county, Iowa, with his parents when a young man, where he spent several years of his life. He later moved to Kellerton, where he served four years as marshal. He united with the United Brethern (sic) church in 1901, where he was a faithful worker for a number of years and after he moved to Kellerton he moved his membership to the Christian church of this place. He was a good and thoughtful neighbor, a loving father and husband. His last seven years was spent in suffering which he bore with patience. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, six children, three brother (sic), Cal of Kellerton, Howard of Hurdland, Mo., Chris of Auborn, Neb., all of whom were at his bedside except Chris who was unable to come. Funeral services were held in the Christian church at Kellerton, conducted by Rev. YOUNG, after which he was laid to rest in the Kellerton [Maple Row] cemetery.
NOTE: Willis' mother Elizabeth (?) SISSEL was born April 25, 1824, and died on December 12, 1911 with interment at Maple Row Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa. James M. SISSEL was born January 25, 1829, and died March 22, 1908 with interment at Mount Zion Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa. Also interred at Mount Zion Cemetery is Infant Son SISSEL, born February 8, 1888, and died February 9, 1888.
Willis' wife Emma (THOMPSON) SISSEL was born in 1858, and died in 1931 with interment at Maple Row Cemetery. Iva A. SISSEL, son of Willis and Emma (THOMPSON) was born in 1879, and died in 1949 with interment at Maple Row Cemetery. Clarence Elmore NEWTON (1884-1964), son-in-law of the SISSELS was interred at Maple Row Cemetery.
Willis' brother Cal SISSEL was born December 12, 1858, and died September 15, 1951 with interment at Maple Row Cemetery.
