OBITUARY - DORIS AUTUMN "SUG" (PETTIS) JOHNSON
Doris Autumn PETTIS began the journey of her life the morning of the first hard frost of 1923, October 19th, near Eureka. Her family included her parents, Joe and Bessie, brothers, Clive and Otto, and sister Lois. She passed away Saturday March 29, 2008 at the Ringgold County Hospital.
Doris attended Delphos Consolidated School for her elementary education, Mount Ayr for her freshman year, and when the family moved to Kellerton in 1938, there she graduated high school.
On August 26 1942 she married Ralph O’GRADY and they were parents to three daughters, Anna Marie, Patricia Kay, and Francis Elaine. They made their homes in the communities of Ellston, Arispe, and Kellerton.
On August 18, 1965 Doris married Duane JOHNSON and they made their home in rural Kellerton. To this marriage, Dennis Duane was born.
Throughout her life Doris, or “Sug” and she was best known, was active in community activities. She was baptized as a baby in the Eureka Methodist Church and was active in Delphos community until the family moved to Kellerton.
In the Kellerton Community, Sug was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, The Valentine Rebekah Lodge, Past Noble Grands, Kellerton Betterment Association, the United Methodist Church and the Christian Church. For many years she was the caretaker of the Athens Township cemeteries and spent nearly 20 years as clerk for the Athens Township Supervisors.
Sug’s many passions in life include playing cards with friends, playing bingo, her family, and most importantly the friends she made throughout her life in Ringgold County.
Preceding her in death: her parents, Joe and Bessie, brothers, Clive and Otto, a sister Alice Hope, her husband's Ralph and Duane, grandson Mark ROUSE.
Surviving are her sister, Lois TERZIS; children, Ann PARKS, Pat O’GRADY, Fran O’GRADY, and Dennis JOHNSON; grandchildren Cheryl KERN and Shawn RAINEY; great-grandchildren, John ROUSE, David KERN, Dalton RAINEY, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Services were held on Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at 10:30 a.m., Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home, Mount Ayr, Iowa.
