OBITUARY - VIRGIL DEAN HOWIE

Virgil Dean HOWIE, son of Clyde & Marie (LANE) HOWIE, was born May 9, 1926 at Kent, Iowa. Virgil graduated from Redding High School in 1945. On November 10, 1945, he married Jean WILSON in Mount Ayr. Virgil was a farmer. He was active in the R.L.D.S. (Church of Christ) where he served as an Elder. He was also a member of the Ringgold County Farm Bureau and former member of the Ringgold County Sheriff Posse, Mount Ayr Community School board, and was a former 4-H leader.

Virgil passed away on January 16, 2008 at the Health Care Center in Mount Ayr.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Lowell HOWIE; brother-in-law Sam TAYLOR; sister-in-law Joanne HOWIE; and a nephew James HOWIE.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife Jean HOWIE of Mount Ayr; two sons Lanny HOWIE of Oelwein, IA and Terry HOWIE & wife Fay of Mount Ayr; daughter Kelly SCHLAGER & husband Myron of Evans, CO; 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; brother Leroy HOWIE of Creighton, PN (?); two sisters Aleine TAYLOR of Mount Ayr and Delores MOODY & husband James of Port Angeles, WA; sister-in-law Alice HOWIE of Mount Ayr; other relatives and friends.

Services were held on Saturday, January 19, 2008, at 10:30 a.m., Wilson-Watson & Armstrong, Mount Ayr, Iowa.
