OBITUARY.
Miss Elizabeth C. HALEY was born June 22, 1875, in Mt. Sterling, Illinois. She came with her widowed mother [Nancy W. (COOK) HALEY] and three brothers to Ringgold county near Benton when quite small, where she has lived ever since. She was a bright intelligent girl and was known all over the neighborhood and was respected by everybody. She was particularly fond of reading, and we have sat and listened to her read for hours at a time, and our heart has been touched and we have felt the tears trickle down our cheeks as we have heard her sweet voice as she spoke on children's day or at the picnic. She gave her hand to Sister ZIKE about three years ago as a token of her desire to become a Christian, and in her short spell of sickness she seemed conscious that she was going to die, and called her mother and three brothers to bid them all good bye one by one, and said the death angel had called her and that there were lots of angels coming to escort her home, and she was just ready to cross the river. With these last words of farewell her spirit took its flight on angels' wings to the paradise of God, there to bathe in the ocean of God's love, there to wait and look for her mother and brothers. O, let us be ready to meet her. She died February 9, 1891 [at the age of fifteen years]. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. H. THARP and Sister ZIKE. Every heart seemed to be touched and every eye dropped a sympathizing tear. O, let us remember the commandment of the Lord to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction. We carried her body from the home to the Marshalltown cemetery [near Benton, Ringgold County, Iowa], where we laid it to rest till the resurrection morn. -H. THARP.
