OBITUARY - NANCY HALEY.
Nancy W. COOK was born June 9, 1842, in Rockcastle county, Kentucky. At the age of fifteen she united with the Christian church of which she has ever been a faithful member.
She was united in marriage in 1864 with James T. HALEY. To this union were born seven children: James, Lizzie, Nettie and Coleman, all of whom died before reaching maturity; Robert, Lindsey C., and William Thomas grew to manhood.
The family moved to Illinois in 1869, where they remained for twelve years, later going to Missouri, where the husband died in 1880. The following year Mrs. HALEY came to Iowa where she settled on a farm south of Benton. For the past thirty-five years she has made her home with her son, W. T., at Benton. She has been practically helpless for sixteen years and her care has been in the patient and able hands of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. W. T. HALEY.
Mrs. HALEY passed away suddenly at six o'clock Sunday morning, May 16, at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 24 days. She had apparently been in her usual health and death came as a great shock to relatives and friends. Her death is mourned by two sons, W. T. and L. C. HALEY; two grandsons, Arthur and Otto, and six great-grandchildren, all of Benton. A son, Robert, died in 1923. Friends extend their sincere sympathy to the families in their great affliction.
The funeral service was conducted from the pulpit of the Church of Christ at Benton by Elder Dennis DILLE [with interment at Marshalltown Cemetery near Benton, Ringgold County, Iowa.]
NOTE: Arthur HALEY, grandson of Nancy W. (COOK) HALEY, was born in 1888, and died in 1973 with interment at Marshalltown Cemetery near Benton, Ringgold County. He was married to Veneta (1896-1966).
