OBITUARY - N. A. GUNTER.

Noah Abner GUNTER, son of Enos and Mary Ann GUNTER, was born in Marion county, Iowa, June 5, 1850. He departed this life at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, November 19, 1931, at the age of 81 years, five months and 14 days.

He was married to Elizabeth Ellen BANKS at Newvern, Iowa, April 2, 1871. To this union six children, five sons and one daughter, were born. All of whom are living and were all all present at the funeral except one son. The sons are: John W. of Litchfield, Minn., Calvin A. of Eldorado Springs, Mo.; Harvey O. of Laurel, Mont.: Noah A. of Carnegie, Okla.; Delmer E. of Benton. The one daughter is Elsie Belle JONES of Conway, Iowa.

The GUNTER family moved to Ringgold county, Iowa, in 1888 and settled on a farm near Benton and have continuously resided near and in Benton since that time.

Noah GUNTER joined the United Brethren church soon after coming to Benton and later transferred his membership to the Methodist Episcopal church in Benton and has ever lived a thoroughly consistent christian life.

Besides the six children named above, he leaves his faithful wife, Elizabeth E.; one brother, John L. who was present, and two sisters, Rebecca Ellen BANKS of Griggs Harbor and Luella K. WILLIS of Glendo, Wyo., neither of whom were present; and 35 grandchildren.

"Granddad" GUNTER, as he was lovingly called by most who knew him, was a patient, loving husband, a devoted father and a generous friend to all with whom he became acquainted. He has left to his wife, to his children, to his grandchildren and to the community in which he lived the greatest bequest that mortal man can leave to posterity - a clean christian example.

The following line, which appeared in the obituary of Brother GUNTER's mother and which have been treasured by him all the years since her death, are hereby attached by request of his daughter, Mrs. Elsie JONES:

Home is not home for father's not there;
Angels have taken him out of our care;
Dark is his room and empty his chair,
He is gone to that home, so peaceful and fair
Gone, and the seasons to come and to go,
Wreathing his grave in blossoms and snow;
Snow on the bosom that sheltered us so,
Cruel and cold as the bleak winds that blow.
Sleep, father, sleep, thy toils are all o'er,
Sleep be thy rest, as you needed before;
Well have we loved you, but God loved you more,
He's called thee away to that bright happy shore.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Benton Sunday afternoon, November 22, conducted by T. S. RHOADES, assisted by Rev. Dennis DILLE, and interment made in the Benton cemetery.

The following poem written by a friend was read at the funeral service:

Dear husband, father, neighbor, friend,
How lonely will be the days without you.
Your kindly words, you smile of cheer,
Has grown to all of us so dear.
The empty pew, the vacant chair,
We'll miss your voice in song and prayer;
But in the Angel choir above,
Your voice will join in songs of love.

As you sang "Unclouded Day"
Me thinks the cloud was very dim,
Which hid away from sight of you
The "Cloudless Day" of beautifous hue.

You toil and suffering here is done,
Our loss is only your great gain;
We grieve - But not as without hope,
Your crown you won.
