OBITUARY - STEPHEN JOHN GROGAN.
Stephen John GROGAN was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on December 26, 1859, and departed this life on July 14, 1930, at his home near Beaconsfield, Iowa, at the age of 70 years, seven months and 14 days. Death came after a long illness, which he bore with patience and fortitude. When only an infant in arms he removed from his home in St. Louis to Cooperstown, New York, where he resided until he was a lad of nine years.
He, at that time, with his parents and brothers and sisters, came to Decatur county, Iowa, where he spent the greater part of his life.
On September 26, 1889, he was united in marriage to Miss Johannah DAUGHTON, and to this union were born five children as follows: Margaret and Dennis W. of Beaconsfield, Marea of Mount Ayr, Maurice of Corydon, and Michael J. of Batavia. His wife preceded him in death about three years ago.
In addition to his five children who mourn his death, he leaves three sisters - Mrs. Mike GRIFFIN, the Misses Kate B. and Ella V. GROGAN of Leon, Iowa, and nine grandchildren.
Johnnie (as he was better known) GROGAN was a man who always dealt honestly with his fellowmen and who made friends readily. His funeral was held from St. Patrick's church, Grand River, Iowa, a beautiful low mass being read by Rev. Father CONE, of Ottumwa.
The large concourse of friends who were present bespoke the high esteem in which he was held.
Interment was made in St. Mary's cemetery in Woodland township.
May his soul rest in peace.
