OBITUARY - HORACE WHITFIELD GREENMAN
Died, April 29, 1891, at Mount Ayr, Horace Whitfield GREENMAN, of Athens township, aged 62 years, Mr. GREENMAN was born in Ontario, Canada, February 7, 1829. On his father's side, he was of English extraction, and on his mother's side from the Dutch. He remained in his place of birth until 1850, when he moved to Mercer county, Illinois, and afterwards to Henderson county, in the same state. He came to Iowa and Ringgold county, in 1873, and made a good home in Athens township, where he has brought up his family. In 1852, he married Miss Nancy ECKLEY. They had nine children, seven of whom are still living, four boys and three girls. Mrs. GREENMAN died last August and away in the northwest after seeking health in many climates, and exhausting all means. Mr. GREENMAN had been feeble and had been in the south, and was returning to his home, and died at the home of W. M. JOHNSON. He was associated withthe Wesleyan Methodist church and was reconized as an enterprising good citizen. He has been associated with many of our county improvements, and especially in the way of building bridges. Rev. W. B. THOMPSON officiated at the funeral which took place May 1, 1891.
