OBITUARY.
Died, November 10, 1890, Thos. J. GRAHAM, aged 57 years, 2 months, 1 day. Mr. GRAHAM was born in Tippecanoe county, Indiana, September 9, 1833. Moved with his parents to Jefferson county, Iowa, in 1851, and in 1854, he moved to Mahaska county. He married Miss Jennetty HAND (sic) in 1859.
Mr. GRAHAM was a soldier, he served in the 7th Regiment of Iowa Volunteers [Infantry, Company K]. He enlisted on August 27, 186?, and served until May 28, 186[5?], receiving an honorable discharge. While in the service of his country, he saw the necessity of being obedient to God, but was not converted until three years ago, and in a short time after entered into the blessing of sanctification and has ever since lived in close communion with his God.
Mr. GRAHAM moved to Ringgold county in 1881 and first lived on the farm now owned by Day DUNNING in Washington township, afterwards on other places and five years ago bought a farm near the present town of Diagonal. He was well known as a quiet, law-abiding citizen, a good neighbor, and a well respected man.
And when the time came for Brother GRAHAM to receive his final discharge, God calling him from labor to rest, he gave the brightest testimony of his acceptance with God. Talked to his family of the business and what he wished done, and then like a gallant knight who has had his death wound, gather his mantle around him and quietly awaited the death summons. His daughter from Mahaska county and his son from southern Kansas were present to join with the other eight children and his stricken wife and mourning neighbors, who on Tuesday the 11th of November, saw him quietly laid to rest in the Knowlton [Centenary] cemetery, there to await the resurrection call, all feeling that he will be summoned amongst the first and sit on the right hand and hear the applaudit, "Enter ye into my glory." His funeral was preached by his tried friend and near neighbor, the writer, from Hebrews 9:27, "And as it is appointed unto man once to die, but after this, the judgement." --Wm. McFARLAND
