50th Wedding Annivesary of Mr. and Mrs. Chris V. Rock 1935

ROCK GOLDEN WEDDING (1935)

If ever there is a particular time in married life that one should pause and say “Ebenezer—Hitherto the Lord has helped me” it should surely be on the golden wedding day. Mr. and Mrs. Chris v. rock werer privileged to celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary last Tuesday with the sun smiling upon the occasion very happily, thus also giving Mr. and Mrs. Rock’s many relatives and friends the opportunity to come and spend the day or evening with them.

Mr. Rock was born in Germany, January 5, 1858, and came to America a young man of 18 years, settling at Davenport, Iowa, where he met Miss Caroline Rock, who was born in Scott county, Iowa on March 5, 1864 and on her twenty-first birthday was married to Mr. Rock.

For four years, Mr. and Mrs. Rock resided on a farm near Davenport, but in 1889 they moved to Pottawattamie county where they have resided to this very day. The stability and progressiveness of the Rock family is again shown in the family in that they have lived on the same farm all these years. Mr. and Mrs. Rock have seen much of this country’s history made as also the many changes that have taken place in our local community. Their health has been true to their name and their interest has been to the upbuilding of the community.

Their union has been blessed with four daughters and two sons, Bertha, Rrs. John sick; Ida, Mrs. Herman Holtz; Rosa, Mrs. Henry Dittmer; Alfred at home, one daughter, Lena and one son, Arthur, who already have been called to their eternal home. Mr. and Mrs. Rock are proud of eight grandchildren and on great grandchild.

The day and evening was spent in greeting many friends, especially those that came from the eastern part of the state, reading the many congratulation cards and letters, looking at presents and not to be forgotten the delicious supper and lunch as also the mock wedding and charivari during the late hour of the evening.

Rock and family; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rock; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Rock and family; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Rock; Mr. and Mrs. John Ingwersen, Mr. and Mrs. Jurgen Tamms; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stude and Ada; Rev. and Mrs. Gerlt and son; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Bornholdt, Mr. and Mrs. John Carroll and Wilma Jean; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Harris; Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Rock and Herbert; Mr. and Mrs. George Lippold Sr and Family; Mr.and Mrs. Rinehardt Krummel and sons; Mr. and Mrs. William Pattee and Donald; Mr. and Mrs. Krummel and Joyce; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hildebrandt and daughter; Mr. and Mrs. John Krummel and Alfred; Mr. and Mrs. Louie Rock and family; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Piittmann; gus Petersen, Mrs. Ferd Sieh, Hans Trede and henry Rieber.
Out of town visitors were:
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kronenberg of Davenport, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Gus Grave of Dixon, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Helmut rock of Dixon, Iowa; Mrs. William rock of Dixon, Iowa., Charlie Cox and Arnum Tibbets of Omah, Nebraska.
