Lynching/Murder of "Jack/John" Hiner

I am trying to find out more about the lynching/murder of "Jack Hiner/John Hiner/"Old" Hiner in the 1860's.

According to the "ANNALS of POLK COUNTY, IA and the City of Des Moines" by Will Porter - 1898, in Chapter 7 entitled Crimes there is an article entitled "The Disappearance of Jack Hiner."
(Basically he was accused of theft and hung by vigilantes... The article does mention a widow but gives no name.)

In another article in "PIONEERS of POLK COUNTY,IA 1908 Vol. 1" the Hiner family is mentioned: "The work was done by Samuel Hiner, a brother of "Jack" Hiner" who so mysteriously disappeared in 1869."

And yet again I found mention of this crime on a Clinton County, IA website but it gives the name of the hanged man as "John Hiner" or "Old Hiner." Apparently he was taken from the Sheriff June 16, 1865, at gunpoint by vigilantes. His body was later found in Silver Creek - five miles northwest of DeWitt.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated as I live in NC and have no accress to such info other than the internet.
