Randy Frank Mendez, 57, passed away at his Des Moines home on Monday, June 25, 2012. A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 28, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Des Moines. Burial will be private. The family will greet friends and family at a memorial visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. vigil today, Wednesday, June 27, at Grandview Park Funeral Home.
Randy was born October 22, 1954, in Ft. Madison, to Johnny and Tinnie Mendez. He graduated from Ft. Madison High School, and married his wife of 30 years, Janice, on November 6, 1982. He was self-employed as a lawn care specialist. Randy loved spending time with his grandkids and being outdoors. He also was known for his willingness to help others.
Randy is survived by his wife, Janice Mendez; children, Brent (Kristin) Mendez, Jenna Mendez, and Josh Mendez; two grandchildren, Keegan Joseph and Malia Ann; his parents, Johnny and Tinnie Mendez; a brother, Brian (Kim) Mendez; a sister, Dora (Gary) Lozano; nieces and nephews; and many friends. Randy was preceded in death by his grandparents, Benito and Erminia Sandoval and Vincent and Maria Mendez.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family in loving memory of Randy.
