Lib, age 94, died peacefully on June 23, 2012 in Des Moines, Iowa. Virginia lived at Trinity Center at Luther Park since November 2007.
She was born on October 20, 1917 in Wilmington, North Carolina. She spent the early years of her life in Wilmington before meeting her husband Gene. They traveled the world as Gene's Army service took them to Redstone Arsenal (Huntsville) Alabama, Okinawa Japan, Lib to Tampa Florida while Gene serviced in Korea, Taipei Taiwan, Chicago Illinois, Montgomery Alabama and finally back to Huntsville, where they bought their first home and retired.
Virginia "Lib" was preceded in death by her loving husband, Eugene William Menning after 61 years of blessed marriage. He passed July 1, 2003. Lib is survived by her two children, Michele Stegh of Des Moines Iowa and Eugene William Menning, Jr. (Sue) of Sacramento California. Four grandchildren: Kyle Stegh, Scott Stegh, Sara Sherman and Jennifer Menning-Gochenouer. Also Eight great-grandchildren: Taylor, Emily, Maren and Cecelia Stegh, Harley and Hank Sherman, Elizabeth Menning and Hunter Gochenouer.
