William "Bill" J. Mohan Jr., age 70, of Ankeny, Iowa, passed away Friday, August 10, 2012, at Bright Kavanagh House in Des Moines, Iowa.
William was born February 7, 1942, to William J. and Dorothy Mohan in Worcester, Mass. In 1959, he moved to Kansas where he attended St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Wichita. He then had additional training to become a Nurse Anesthetist. He met Merrilyn McCue and they were married in Wichita on July 10, 1965. They moved to Grinnell, Iowa, in 1969 and raised their two sons, Michael and John. Bill and Merrilyn moved to Council Bluffs in 1989 and after retirement moved to West Des Moines, and finally to Ankeny. He enjoyed reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and watching his beloved Red Sox.
He is preceded in death by his father, William J. Mohan.
Survivors include his wife, Merrilyn Mohan of Ankeny; sons, Michael (Steffany) Mohan of Clive, Iowa, and John (Stephanie) Mohan of Waverly, Iowa; six grandchildren, Luke, Camaryn, Halle, Josh, Andrew, and Aidan; mother, Dorothy Mohan of Auburn, Mass.; and sisters, Nancy (Bob) Mercier of Oxford, Mass., and Kathleen (Steve) Hair of Auburn, Mass.
A memorial visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with a vigil service at 7 p.m. on Monday, August 13, 2012, at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Church, 510 E. 1st St., Ankeny. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at OLIH with burial to follow at Ankeny Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be directed to the John Stoddard Cancer Center, 1221 Pleasant St. # 450, Des Moines, IA 50309.
