Kathryn L."Kathy" Starnes, 85, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 and was cremated according to her wishes. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, August 14, at Westover Baptist Church in Des Moines, with reception following.
Kathy was born on July 22, 1927 in Diagonal, Iowa and graduated from Adel High School. She married Donald Starnes on February 1, 1947 and was a loving and devoted wife and mother for 65 years.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Starnes; daughters, Sharon (Greg) Roth and Phyllis (Gerry) McGowen; son, Raymond (Diane) Starnes; daughter-in-law, Chris Starnes; brothers, Glenn (Joanne) McGee and Ray (Janice) McGee; and 23 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Kathy was preceded in death by sons, Larry at infancy and Thomas in 2008; one brother, James McGee; and sister, Evelyn Waters.
