Alice Veryl Carlson, 82, died Friday, August 10, 2012. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., August 17 at Meredith Drive Reformed Church, located at 5128 Meredith Drive in Des Moines, IA.
Alice was born in Mason City, Iowa, on March 19, 1930, to John and Blanche O'Brien. She graduated from Mason City High School. She was married to John A. "Jack" Carlson on March 20, 1955 and they resided in Mason City until 1991 when they moved to the Des Moines area to be closer to family.
Alice was deeply devoted to caring for others and leaves a legacy of love and faith for family and friends. She regularly blessed others with her baking and cooking. She enjoyed working with her hands in a variety of other ways.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Connie Adams, son-in-law, Doug Adams, and granddaughters Allie and Moe, all of Urbandale, IA; daughter-in-law Rosanne Carlson, and grandsons Christopher and Patrick, all of Tempe, AZ, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sons, Bob and Steve Carlson, and her six siblings, brothers Dick and George O'Brien, and sisters Esther Smith, Katie Fuller, Osa Tuthill, and Barbara Ellen McGriff.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, August 16, at Meredith Drive Reformed Church. Memorial Contributions may be made to Meredith Drive Reformed Church.
