James LeRoy Brinkman, 74, died on Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 28, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Urbandale, IA, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
Jim was born on September 6, 1937, in Waterloo, to Evelyn (Guynn) and Glenn Brinkman. He grew up in Waterloo and attended Loras College in Dubuque. Jim served in the U.S. Marine Corps and later became a deputy sheriff in Black Hawk County. He was a self employed contractor for many years in the Des Moines area.
Jim will be greatly missed by his best friend and companion Carol Mullahey of West Des Moines; his children, Lori (Tony) Hinders of Waverly, Tami (Vince) Schons of Cedar Falls and Greg (Amy) Brinkman of Afton, MN; his grandchildren, Brandon, Erin, Lauren, Tyler, Brittany, Alyssa, Adam and Danielle; his sister, Annette Shabbits of Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 Monday at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church. Online condolences will be welcomed at IlesCares.com.
