Paul Boyd Mather passed away on November 6, 2012 at Wesley Acres Health Center, surrounded by his loving family, from complications of pneumonia. He had waged a courageous battle against Alzheimer's disease for almost seven years.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, November 10 at Iles Funeral Homes-Dunn's Chapel followed by visitation with the family until 4 p.m. Burial will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Maplewood Cemetery in Vinton, IA.
Boyd was born in Atchison County, MO on January 3, 1933 to Paul and Helen Mather. He devoted his life to his family, ministry and teaching. He served as a United Methodist minister in Iowa for over 33 years serving churches at Tama, Coggon, Sibley, Dubuque and Des Moines. He taught at a consortium of Dubuque area seminaries and, more recently, DMACC.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene "Dee" (Geiger) of 55 years; sons, Steven (Kristen) of Urbandale and David (Elizabeth) of St. Paul, MN; sister, Mary Mather (Dave) of Harvest, AL; and three grandchildren, Isabel Mather of St. Paul, and Kieran and Alexandra Mather of Urbandale. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Larry and Denny.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Wesley Acres Health Center and Dr. Robert Bender and staff of the Healthy Aging and Memory Center for their care of Boyd.
Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to the Healthy Aging and Memory Center or the Wesley Acres Good Samaritan Fund.
