Virginia Elrod, 74, of the 600 block of Northwest Nicolas Drive, Ankeny died Wednesday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. The cause of death is unknown, pending the results of an autopsy. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ankeny Baptist Church, of which she was a member. Burial will be at Ankeny Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mrs. Elrod was born in Adel and had lived in Ankeny many years. She was a homemaker and a member of Taking Off Pounds Sensibly. She enjoyed her cats, reading and playing bridge and other card games.
She is survived by her husband, James “Bud”; two sons, Dana of Council Bluffs and Lant of Raleigh, N.C., a sister, Maxine Winter of Des Moines; and her grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamilton’s Near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to her church or the American Heart Association.
