Edward Flaherty

Edward (Ted) Flaherty, 81, Pocahontas, died Sunday afternoon, March 5, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday (today) at the St. Peter Lutheran Church, Pocahontas, with Rev William Loughmiller officiating. Burial will be at Summit Hill Cemetery, Pocahontas. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Powers Funeral Home, Pocahontas.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie, Pocahontas; daughters, Shirley Bakken, Otteson, and Marion Habben, Pocahontas; sons, Donald and Tom, both of Pocahontas, and David, Rockwell City; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; sister, Ellen Kirchner, Rolfe.

Edward Flaherty was born to Matt and Bridgette Smith Flaherty near Pocahontas. He was educated at the Lincoln Township Country School and he later farmed with his parents. On October 13, 1934, he married Elsie Hinrichs. The couple made their home southeast of Pocahontas where they farmed until retiring in 1975. Later in 1977, they moved into Pocahontas. He suffered a stroke in 1981 and has been ill health since then.
