Narcissa B. Dodd Wier
7 February 1820 --- 5 December 1905

Muscatine Journal -- Muscatine, Iowa
December 6, 1905

The death of Mrs. Narcissa B. Wier occurred at the Wier home 407 East Front Street, last evening at 7 o'clock after an illness of eight weeks duration. Mrs. Wier has for many years been a resident of this city and has ever been recognized as a most charitable and kindly character. She was possessed of a large circle of friends who having once met her were anxious to cultivate her friendship.

She was born in Woodbury, Tenn., Feb. 7, 1820, and was in her eighty-sixth year. She was a true southern lady, residing in the south until after the war when she took up her residence in this city, making her home most of the time with her son, James, until the death of the latter, which occurred several years ago. Since that time she has resided with her granddaughters. She was a member of the Willing Workers and the L.L.C. sewing society and the many charitable deeds that she has done will live in the hearts of those she has assisted through the years to come.

Besides her son John, Mrs. Wier is survived by nine grandchildren, they being Nora, Sadie and John Wier at home, Mrs. Anna Hostetler, of Waterloo, Mrs. Kate Jameson, of Chicago, Mrs. Laura Protzman of Charleston, W. Va., James, of Keithsburg, Illinois, Joseph and Miss Lizzie of this city.

The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from their home on East Front Street. The services will be conducted by Rev. Fry of the Friends church.

***
The obituary states that she did not move to Iowa until after the Civil War. She is enumerated in the 1860 census in Wilson County, Tennessee.

Tennessee Marriages:
Narcissa B. Dodd married Joseph S. Wier on June 12. 1841 in Wilson County, Tennessee.

Marcus Dodd married Polly Wilson on December 22, 1806 in Sumner County, Tennessee

****
"Polly" is a typical nickname in the 1800's for "Mary"

****
Online family lineages:
Mary Polly Wilson
Born: 17 February 1788 in Mecklenburg, North Carolina
Died: 28 April 1830

Possibility ---
Mark Dodd
1830 Census -- Henderson County, Tennessee
No wife of appropriate age listed possibly indicating her death earlier that year.

Mary Polly Wilson appears to be the daughter of Revolutionary War patriot Major David Carroll Wilson (1742–1803); He died 19 December 1803 in Gallatin, Sumner, Tennessee

Extensive sourced Wilson family information:

David Carroll Wilson's will mentions his daughter Mary Wilson.
“I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary five hundred acres of land on Caney Spring Creek a branch of Duck River - also one bed and furniture - also a young Roan Mare - also four cows and calves.”

Three years after his death, daughter Mary married Marcus Dodd.

The tract was part of a 2000 acre grant to David Wilson and was described as "lying and being in Bedford County and state aforesaid on North side of Duck River on waters of Caney Spring Creek". This acreage is in present day Marshall County, Tennessee.

Perhaps you can locate a probate record around 1830, a cemetery record, a family bible record or a published family history. I suggest you place queries in Bedford, Marshall, Henderson, Sumner and Wilson counties, Tennessee. Iowa records will probably have little help in locating a place of death in Tennessee. Another clue is that Narcissa Wier's services were conducted by the Friend's Church. You might look into Quaker records.
