Page 8(Muscatine) Mrs. Lillie W. Hopkinson, a well known former resident of this city passed away at the home of her son, J. Walton Hopkinson in Chicago yesterday after an illness extending over a period of some months. Mrs. Hopkinson was in poor health when she left this city five months ago. A complication of diseases caused the demise. The remains were brought to this city this morning and taken to the home of her sister, Mrs. J. E. Hoopes on Stewart Road.
Mrs. Lillie W. Hopkinson was born in Muscatine, September 21st, 1859 and died in Chicago November 11, 1914, aged 55 years, one month and 20 days. She was the daughter of Josiah and Mary Elizabeth Walton, one of the pioneer families of this city, She attended the public schools graduating from high school in the class of 1866. She took up teaching as her work, being one of the most efficient instructors in the grade schools in this city and the rural districts. She was one of the charter members of the 20th Century club and an earnest worker in the Civic society. She belonged to the Iowa legion of honor. She joined the Episcopal church when a young girl and remained a faithful member to the end of her life.
On February 6, 1884 she was united in marriage to Amos C. Hopkinson. Three children were born to them, two of whom preceded their mother in death. One son, J. Walton Hopkinson, of Chicago, survives to mourn the loss of a devoted mother. Two sisters, Mrs. J. E. Hoopes of Stewart Road and Mrs. Alice Walton Beatty, of Muscatine Island, also mourn the demise.
She spent all her life in this city until five months ago when she moved to Chicago to make her home with her son who is employed there. The funeral was held at Trinity church at 2 p. m., the Rev. Webster Hakes having charge of the services. Interment was made in Greenwood cemetery,
