Funeral services for Nellie Mae Carr, 98, West Liberty, were held May 27, 1989 at the West Liberty Chapel of the Barker Funeral Home, with the Rev. Donald Thompson officiating. Burial was in the Oak Ridge cemetery, West Liberty.
Mrs. Carr died May 24 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty, following a long illness.
The daughter of Robert and Sarah Dowling Beatty, she was born March 18, 1891 in Lone Tree. She married Emery Carr in 1910 in Lone Tree. He died in 1939.
Following her marriage, Mrs. Carr was a country school teacher and later worked at Hillcrest Dormitory in Iowa City in the food service program. Later she was self-employed as a seamstress in West Liberty. She was a member of the United Methodist church.
Mrs. Carr is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Martin (Esther) Windus, West Liberty; 3 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, 2 brothers, 4 sisters, 3 grandchildren and a son.
