Melrose

Malachi Grogan, a pioneer resident of Melrose passed away at his home here Friday morning. He had been ill for over a year, and had been cared for by his daughter Miss Frances Grogan, who did everything that was possible to make his last hours easier.

He is also survived by his daughters Mrs. Winnie Dinneen of East Moline, IL, and Mrs. Tom Navin of Melrose, the later who also assisted caring for him. He is also survived by one son, John Grogan of Idaho.

The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. J. McCormick, with Leroy Day, Patricius Carbin, James O'Connor, Francis Ciska and Richard Ward, on the altar.

The Knights of Columbus, of which he was a faithful member, marched in procession to the church and cemetery. Pallbearers were R. H. Sinclair, R. L. Day, Pat Navin, Andy Donohue, J. S. Cummins.

Honorary pallbearers were old friends of Mr. Grogan, Wm. Ford, T. P. Murray, John Luttrell, Richard Hannam, Henry Hannam, Jas. Morrison, J. D. Knowles, Mm. McEniry, Richard Ward, Frank Carmody.

Out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were Mrs. Winnie Dinneen of East Moline, IL, Mrs. James King, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. King and son Billy, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Davis, Mrs. John Hubbard of Ottumwa, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Woods and son John of Albia, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Johnson and daughter Alice Louise, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Paris, son Merrill, daughter Leona and Neva of Newton, IA.

The family have the sympathy of everyone in their bereavement.

PIONEER MELROSE MAN DIED FRIDAY; FUNERAL SUNDAY
October 1930

Malachi Grogan, pioneer resident of Monroe County, died Friday morning at his home in Melrose, following a long illness. He was 75 years old and had lived in or near Melrose virtually his entire life.

Since the death of his wife, in 1899, he has made his home with his daughter, Miss Frances Grogan. He is survived by three daughters, Miss Frances Grogan, Mrs. John Navin of Melrose and Mrs. Dinneen of Rock Island, Illinois and a son, Jack Grogan, in Oregon. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Melrose, with the Rev. Father McCormick officiating.

Malachi Grogan an old and highly respected citizen, passed away at his home here Wednesday night after a long illness. He was tenderly cared for by his daughter Frances during his long illness and everything possible was done to make his suffering lighter.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 from St. Patrick's Church, Rev McCormick officiated, with internment in Calvary Cemetery beside his wife who preceded him in death a number of years ago.

He is survived by four children. One son who lives in Oregon and was unable to be home at his father's funeral and three daughters, Miss Winnie Dinneen of Moline, Illinois, Mrs. Tom Navin who lives in the country, and Frances, at home. Also a number of grandchildren.

His relatives have the sincere sympathy of all in their sorrow.
