Donald Burt, 67, of 2414 170th Street, Marshalltown, died Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at his home while under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m on Saturday, April 27, 2002, at the Chapel Church, with Reverend Gene Burry officiating. Friends may call for visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday, at PurselDavis Funeral Home & Crematory, where the family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.. Burial will be at the Chapel Hill Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in his name.
Donald was born September 1, 1934, in Aurora, Illinois, the son of Richard and Bertha (Soules) Burt. He was raised in Downers Grove, Illinois prior to moving to the family farm outside of Marshalltown in 1946. He later attended Iowa State University.
He was married to Kathryn Zink on June 5, 1955 at the Chapel Church. He farmed the family farm except for the two years he spent in Lincoln. He was a member of the Chapel Church, Farm Bureau, and served on the Green Mountain School Board, Iowa Valley Community College Board, and as a director of Farm Credit Services of America. He was a Master Pork Producer and a Master Farmer.
He is survived by his wife Kathryn Burt, of Marshalltown, his daughters Carol Burt, of West Des Moines, and Barbara Burt, of Marshalltown, his sons Allen(Dorcas Dee) Burt and Darrel(Tammy) Burt, both of Marshalltown, his brothers David(Jeanie) Burt, of Conrad, and Roger(Barbara) Burt, of West Des Moines, his sister Jean(Tom) Hallam, of Marshalltown, and his grandchildren Andrew, Matthew, Michael, Jacob , Morgan, Logan, and Mackenzie Burt. He was preceded in death by his parents.
