Donald Rankin 74, of Marshalltown died of anemia Saturday at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in Marshalltown. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Hope Cemetery in Maquoketa.
Mr. Rankin was born in Maquoketa and had lived in Guttenberg for eight years before moving to Marshalltown more than 40 years ago. He had worked as a teacher and assistant principal before retiring. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of American Legion, Iowa Fireman’s Association, Order of the Eastern Star, Blue Lodge, Royal Arch, Knight Templers and the National Education Association. He had been a Little League and basketball coach and volunteered for Emergency Food Box.
He is survived by his wife, Edith; two sons, Jeff of Marshalltown and Greg of Chicago; two brothers, William of Cookville, Tenn., and James of Maquoketa; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in Marshalltown, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Emergency Food Box.
