Viola Margaret Owens, 86, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, June 9, at Pleasant Park Estates. Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Garland-Van-Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa; burial will be in Forest Cemetery. The Rev. Michael Crouch of First Christian Church will officiate. Visiting hours begin 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with family present 7-8 p.m. Monday. Memorials: Diabetic Association.
Viola was born March 5, 1914, in Keokuk County to Clayton and Whillimine Mewes Stiffler. She attended countries schools and graduated from Sigourney High School in 1932. On May 9, 1933, she married Rendell Owens in Knoxville. He died July 16, 1988. She was a waitress for 25 years at the Canary Cottage in Oskaloosa, and for eight years at Downing Coffee Shop in Oskaloosa. She was a member of First Christian Church in Oskaloosa, King's Daughters Endeavor Circle, Women's Club and the Diabetic Association. She enjoyed gardening and caring for flowers. She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law: Jerry and Jean Stiffler of Crestline, Calif.; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Janet and Bob Newberry of Hemet, Calif., Helen and Bob Cronna of Kennewick, Wash., and Zelda and Rob Hildebrand of Costa Rica; a sister-in-law, Alberta Davis of Oskaloosa; and a nephew and spouse, Billy and Betty Allgood of Oskaloosa, as well as several other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. (the Oskaloosa Herald, date unknown)
