Thursday, August 5, marked another birthday anniversary for Mrs. Ruby Nichols & son Iver. A number of Beloit friends gathered at the Nichols home for a social afternoon. A pot luck lunch was served to 15 at 4 o'clock by the self invited guests. Mrs. Nichols received many nice gifts as a special remembrance on this occasion.

Private Iver Nichols is in training at Camp Campbell, KY.

Mrs. Lucy Mullinix had a surprise & a real thrill last week on her birthday when she talked by phone to her son Capt. Beeman Mullinix from Camp Dorn, MS. Capt. Mullinix & wife wished her happy birthday & said that they were fine. Capt. & Mrs. Mullinx visited relatives & friends at Beloit, Canton & Huron about 8 weeks ago.

Lyon Co. is loosing one of it's workers Mrs. Marie Keul of Rock Rapids, the public health nurse. She is resigning September 1st & with her small son goes south to visit her husband at Ft. McClellan, AL. She will also visit with relatives in NC. Her plans further than that are indefinite. Mrs. Keul has worked in this county off & on since 1939. She was well known by almost everyone as she gave Red Cross lessons to various communities.

Mrs. Robert Schneider's little niece, age 8, of Centerville is visiting for an indefinite time at the Schneider home.

Local leaders are receiving notices to be passed on to other ladies from Antionette Bardwell, Co. Extension Home Economist, that she will give a drying demonstration on fruits & vegetables at the Inwood High School Friday 8/13 from 2 to 4 p.m. All ladies living in Inwood district are urged to attend.

Mrs. Frank M. Lingo of Ft. Yates, ND is visiting several days at the C. J. Lingo & Eugene Waggoner homes at Sioux Falls. Mrs. Lingo will teach this coming year at the McLaughlin High School. Her husband is in service in England.

Miss Dawn Mae Schneider, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Robert Schneider, is assisting with book work at the Youmans Lumber Co.

Mr. & Mrs. Vernon Rhead & sons of Sioux City & Truman Rhead & family of Canton visited Sunday afternoon at the Frank Welch home. Pete Stangeland was a dinner guest.

Mr. & Mrs. L. A. Eastman were at Sioux Falls on business Monday & were supper guests of Mrs. Eastman's brother Earl Minor & family.

Mr. & Mrs. Andy Messerschmidt & daughter Gladys & 2 sons James & Roy of Watertown were overnight guests at the Frank Welch home Saturday. Sunday they visited Mr. & Mrs. L. A. Eastman. Mrs. Messerschmidt is a daughter of the Welches.

Arfie Mullinix of Sioux Falls visited relatives & friends at Beloit Friday. Mr. Mullinix runs an oil station at Sioux Falls.

Glen Mullinix who is helping with threshing at the Simon Chance farm near Fairview spent Sunday with the home folks.

Mrs. Henry Cornelious & sons visited Sunday afternoon at the Melvin Cornelious home near Inwood.

Mrs. Lucy Mullinix & daughter Mary were at Sioux Falls on business Friday.

Mrs. Ella Cunningham, Mrs. Ruby Nichols & Mrs. Dan Sullivan visited Tuesday afternoon at the Lucy Mullinix home with Mr. & Mrs. Luther Robbins of Richmond, CA.

Friday morning Mr. & Mrs. Luther Robbins left by train for Sioux City & from there they took the bus to their home in CA. They are both employed in defense work at the Kaiser ship yards & had 3 weeks vacation.
