Dr. J. Jackson Crider, a widely known doctor, passed away at his home in Columbus Junction Monday morning as the result of a paralytic stroke suffered Sunday morning. Dr. Crider was born in Washington county, Virginia, October 15, 1831. He moved with his parents to Indiana when a child. he was a graduate of the Philadelphia Medical college. In 1871 he went from New York City to Ottumwa, where he established the "Ottumwa Medical and Surgical Institute" which he conducted until it was destroyed by fire in 1906.

On February 19, 1906, he was married to Sadie A Knaub at Wapello and at about that time removed from Ottumwa to Columbus Junction where he has since resided. The funeral was held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the home. The services were conducted by Rev. T. M. Balcoff, pastor of the Presbyterian church. Dr. Crider is survived by his wife and children of his first marriage. The interment was made at Columbus City.
