Page 1Mrs. Anna Gordon Stewart passed away last Thursday at her home in Morning Sun at the age of eighty-one. Mrs. Stewart has been ill for many weeks, but passed away quietly with little suffering. She has been a resident of Morning Sun since the year 1884, when she moved there from Kossuth in Des Moines county. She was born August 8, 1833 in Cincinnati, O., and at the age of four years came to Iowa with her parents, James and Nancy Gordon, who made their pioneer home along the Mississippi and Iowa river bluff above Oakville, at what later was know as the Edwards farm. Annie Gordon was united in marriage to William Stewart in 1853 and they removed to Kossuth and later to Morning Sun.
Mr. Stewart died several years ago, and Mrs. Stewart is survived by two sons Henry Stewart, of Newport, Iowa and Harvey Stewart, of Sioux City, Iowa; and five daughters, Mrs. Balinda Courts, Morning Sun; Mrs. Eva Rutt, Morning Sun; Mrs. Adelle DeLong, Farlbault, Minn; Mrs. Emma Conner, Hill City, Kansas, and Mrs. Josephine Armstrong, Doxey, Oklahoma. Mrs. Stewart was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of Morning Sun and had been a member of the same church since early girlhood. She was well known throughout both Louisa and Des Moines counties. The funeral services were held from the Methodist Episcopal church at Morning Sun at three o'clock Friday afternoon, Rev. C. B. Hankins conducting the services. Interment was made at Elmwood cemetery.
