Uncle Matthew Jamison died Tuesday, Nov. 28, shortly before midnight, after a lingering illness lasting over two years. He was part 71 years of age, having been born in Ohio, Fayette county, June 28, 1831. He was the youngest of the Jamison pioneer families who settled in Louisa county in the early '40s, and was the last survivor of this large family of sturdy settlers who hewed their homes out of the forests of Ohio and built their log cabins in this then sparely settled region. He was married to Miss Martha Raymer in 1857 who with four children, two sons and two daughter, survive, four of the family of eight having died. Those living, all of whom reside near the old homestead, are E. R., W. B., Gertrude, who makes her home with W. B., and Myrtle at home.

"Uncle Matthew," as he was familiarly called, was one of those genial men whose friends were numbered by those who knew him. He was a friendly, neighborly, brotherly, kindly, Christian man, a happy soul with a love of good cheer and given to the old fashioned grace of hospitality, a characteristic of the Jamison families. He was a quiet, industrious farmer, with a good home, and content to enjoy the peace and plenty of his own fireside, sharing generously with friends and strangers who found a welcome and shelter beneath his roof. For the last year of more he has been gradually failing, but was able to be about until the cold weather compelled him to house up. He retained his mental faculties until the very last.

The funeral services will be held at the Bethel M. E. church, of which he was a member, on Friday, Dec. 1, the cortege leaving the house at 11 o'clock. Rev. M. E. Reusch will have charge of the services. Interment in the Bethel cemetery.
